Let me help you-for free!

Hi,

I’m offering to help those who are new or beginner (<1000 rated) players learn chess. Learning anything new can be daunting- where to begin? How best to learn? And even frustrating and I’d like to offer a hand. No, I don’t want your money, you can go ask others who have master and/or years of experience teaching credentials for that, but I would like you to be mindful of my time and only consider asking me for some of it if you’re dedicated to learning chess and have a few hours a week you’d like to put towards it. I also only communicate in English and we may want to meet up via some communication platform like Discord/ Google Hangouts, or Skype for example sometime so please be mindful of communication fluency.

A little background of me, I’ve played chess on and off since I was a child and participated in USCF chess tournaments throughout that time sporadically beginning in 2001, getting a USCF rating of around 1600 with my last rated event a few years ago. I didn’t score well, 1/3 against 2000 USCF players, but it was fun competing OTB as I rarely get to with working and family obligations being a priority. Over the years I’ve taught over a dozen kids including my own chess, and a couple adults but I’m by no means an experienced teacher and it’s why I’m not charging any fees. Please don’t expect me to turn you into a master or spend copious amounts of time teaching you.

I’m mostly interested in helping those who have a desire to get involved in learning chess understand how to study, practice, and think when playing chess so they have a better understanding how to progress with confidence. If you decide you want a professional coach to accelerate your progress more rapidly after falling in love with chess hardcore (because you will run that risk unfortunately) I’d be happy to help you find a professional coach.

This is a casual offer, please expect our interaction to be more like a couple buddies chatting about and playing chess together and maybe we’ll decide to get more involved as time goes on but likely you’ll move on before we ever get to that point. I’ll probably suggest we start off with an unrated daily game and proceed with our chess interaction from there, so you’re welcome to challenge me to one straight away- but please make it unrated.
