Management of your allotted time – acceptable etiquette for new player?

I am new to chess and just joined chess.com a couple of weeks ago.  I am clearly still trying to learn and have been playing 30 minute games to give myself time to think as when attempting shorter games I just make too many blunders and don’t really learn anything.  I recently won a match by cheque mate after 27 moves and was really happy with how this had gone.  However once the game was finished I noticed that my opponent had left a series of messages that I had failed to notice during the game.  In all of these he was complaining that I was playing too slow and that he had other things to do so please speed up.  At the end of the game I had 6.30 left on my clock whilst he had over 24 minutes, so I was clearly playing at a much slower pace.  In the middle to end of the match I had several moves which took over a minute to complete but none over 2 minutes.  Did I do anything wrong?

You didn’t do anything wrong. If he wanted a faster game, he should’ve played a shorter time control.

You should be using as much time on your clock as possible.

I switched from 10 minute to 15/10 games. If you are playing a 30 minute game you can take as much of that clock as you want. I don't feel you did anything wrong.

Use the time you got. Just, don't stall in a lost position and it's all good.

Thanks for the replies.

As long as you aren't just sitting for 25 minutes in a dead lost position doing nothing it's perfectly fine

Nothing wrong. You may use your time in full.
