The second one is mate in a simple mate in 1. What is the Knight move for?

In post 16 White stops mate in 2 by playing 1...Nf4+ and then 2... Qe5 converts it to a mate in 4 while 2...Qe2+ would be a Black mate if White did not take the knight.
