Methods of Progressing?

I seem to be stuck and have been using videos and attempting to mimic patterns in order to progress skillwise recently. Are there any methods to improve that you have used and think are good? Send me any methods from either personal experience or from others! : )

I see games of top players in the opening I play. Sometimes i use engine to see some random moves. Like i play sicilian so i use engine what happens if he plays this of that here.

Mimicking won’t get you very far, understanding will. Have you developed a study plan you follow? If so, what is it like? YouTube videos like GothamChess will give you diminishing returns on learning, you’ll definitely pick up some new information but it’s not a basis of studying. For that you need to put in the work to solve puzzles, review games, play games, work through books/ChessAble courses, and so on. There’s many different ways to learn and some focus on more things than others, but I prefer a balanced plan of puzzles, play and analysis, chessable work on openings and endgames, books, and master game review. However, lower rated players may benefit from more or less of those things.

Here’s some ideas to help you get better.

-I recommend two books for you: “50 Poison Pieces”   and “Queen For A Day: The Girl’s Guide To Chess Mastery.”  Both books are available on Amazon.com.  Both books are endorsed by chess masters!

-If you are serious about chess, I highly recommend you hiring a chess coach to help you.

-Also consider all checks and captures on your side and also your opponent’s side. Always as, “If I move here, where is my opponent going to move?”. Do this for every single move!

-Play with a slow time control, such as G/30 so you have plenty of time to think before every move.
