Moving From Computers To Humans

I'm currently playing bots and Sven at 1100 is a good match.

I would like to start playing human opponents and working on increasing my rating so how does it work? When I play a human opponent how does win, lose or draw affect my rating?

How can I work out an accurate rating so I can try to increase it?

Hi Chess147,

You start with a default rating of 1200. If you play a rated game against an opponent, your rating will change as follows:

  • If your opponent has a higher rating, your rating goes up if you win or draw (more if you win, less if you draw). Your rating only goes down if you lose.
  • If your opponent has a lower rating, your rating goes up only if you win (but by a lesser amount than if your opponent had a higher rating). Your rating goes down if you draw or lose (more if you lose, less if you draw).
  • If your opponent has the same rating, a draw keeps your rating the same.

The more rated games you play, the more accurate your rating will be!

Best.

Hi Referendarius,

Thanks for your help that makes it much clearer and I've taken the plunge and started some one day games against humans. No more playing bots now thumbup.png
