on move 10, the computer wants me to push my d-pawn to d4, in the game i take on e4 and this is a mistake, for some reason, the evaluation swings over 2 points away from me because of this move, and i just don't understand why this is bad, pawn breaks are so complicated...

if anyone knows how to show the game already set on move 10 that would be nice

i looked at again, and I am thinking its because the pawn break allows bishop c4, that's the only reason I can think that this trade is better for white

It’s probably some absurd engine reason

Maybe when the knight is kicked there’s no fork

Yes, I agree with that. Your dxe4 activates white's bad bishop. On the other hand, d4 keeps the bishop passive and sad, and also it chases the c3 knight to a bad square: either to d1 or to b5 which looks better but it will be kicked to a3.

I don't know how the machine calculates the points, but I also agree that dxe is a positional mistake. At the moment the Be2 is very passive. After you have opened the center, the bishop comes to life.
