Nelson makes me want to quit!

I’m a beginner starting later in life and the Nelson bot destroys be every time! If I can’t beat him, is there any point going further? Why wouldn’t everyone play like he does? Is there a trick that pros use to make this type of player regret using the queen like that? Aaargh!

Nelson is weak against pins and forks.
just trade queens early on and you should do fine

Hi! My name is Lauren Goodkind and I'm a chess coach based in California. Before each move, pay attention to his queen and his other pieces. If he can safely capture a piece, then how can you defend it properly? Ask, if I move here, is it safe?
Also, consider all checks and captures. I also suggest asking, "If I move here, what is Nelson going to do?".

Yes, I won with Nelson (I was black) but it was harder than David. I think though you just need to be careful a the beginning, he makes pretty obvious threats and you just need to find the accurate answer. As soon as I was a bit ahead of material I traded queens as he seems to be strong with his. I made a few mistakes and lost a huge advantage in the end game, but I manage to win anyway, so I guess endgame is not as strong
Trust me you can beat him, I've managed to beat him twice and I'm rated well below you. One thing you don't want to do is try over and over in one go because tilt is real and he's the bot everyone loves to hate.

Horatio Nelson's strategy used to outmanoeuvre everyone, so you need to sea a way to get the ship back on course.
Nelson seems like weak tea, easily blunder forks and simple tactics. I got mated a couple times a while back though, not anymore though.
