Improving in chess takes a long time. Don't expect it to be an easy ride. Of course, if you have a high IQ, you would usually have an upper advantage than others. However, memorising patterns are crucial too. Always take note of your games so when you face a similar situation, you can counter it or play better against it.

Best of luck to your chess journey. I started playing only in 2018. I have lost a lot of sanity and broken a lot of my mouses.

@GabGarbage This is not necessarily true; a high IQ doesn't guarantee skill at chess.

I would have thought it depends the type of intellegence you have as there are different aspects to intellegence. I'd also imagine personality factors come into play regarding innate skill - if your an impulsive person who tends to act before thinking you would likely be at a disadvantage in chess?

Personality wise also affects how a player plays chess too.

i legit do more work then others but some are more talented and get the patterns more quickly so talent does play a big role definitely a mindset aswell also age needs to be factored it doesnt always give you a advantage but i would say most of the time since IQ is not accurate enough its just a vague estimation and like were better at different things so i could be better then someone in a different sport or interest but is inferior in this one but IQ is just a rounded up estimation
