New to Chess: The Beginning of My Chess Journey

Hello everyone!

I am new to chess today for the first time in a really long time. Although I know next to nothing about the sport, I am deeply fascinated by its complexity, strategy and history. I have decided to join this forum in hopes of finding inspiration, learning resources, and like-minded friends.

Starting today, I will be embarking on a journey to learn chess. My goal is to start with the most basic rules and strategies and gradually go deeper and deeper, learning how to open, how to plan each move, and how to deal with the different tactics of my opponents. I know it will not be an easy journey, but I am enthusiastic and looking forward to it.

I plan to improve my skills by watching instructional videos, reading books and articles, and actually playing chess. I am also very much looking forward to interacting with you all on this forum and sharing my progress and experiences, as well as getting guidance and advice from you all.

If any of you have any beginner-friendly learning resources, suggestions, or would like to share your own learning experiences, please feel free to do so! I would also love to meet everyone who loves chess, whether you are a novice or a veteran. Let's explore, learn and grow together in the world of chess.

Thank you all!

Good luck on your journey. It's a tough journey with many setbacks and much frustration. It is a humbling game and forces an individual to really work on themselves not just as a player but as a person to cultivate the mentality necessary to play this game well. It definitely is not for the meek. But with the right plan, plenty of determination, and consistent study you may surprise yourself when you see what you're capable of. Good luck and best wishes on your journey!

I’m not very strong so take my advice with a grain of salt but I’d stay away from blitz games and work on your 15 | 10 rapid setting or 30 minute games for at least a couple months. I really wish I played more rapid back when I started. It gives you more time to recognize positions and find ideas which later you can implement into blitz once it’s second nature👍

Thanks for the build, I'll give it a go.
