What do these abbreviations mean in live games?

(Sorry to show off my ignorance, but I gotta start somewhere.)

These are chess titles.

NM = National Master
CM = Candidate Master
FM = FIDE Master
IM = International Master
GM = Grandmaster

CM, FM, IM and GM are awarded by FIDE, while NM titles are awarded by individual national chess federations.

You don't have too, but if you do you get extra features
