You can you use, but in a real tournament you can't, like FIDE or USCF
On blocking players and making the most of your chess.com experience
Oh and I will add, when someone plays a "positional" opening in blitz it's so annoying!
In rapid of classical It's ok
Sure, but I've yet to see many players play annoying chess OTB. Unlike you I detest aggressive unsound chess at blitz or bullet...

well you mean gambits? or you mean attacking openings like the Ruz Lopez?
and well for bullet, it's just messed up don't play bullet
i mean some gambits, 2. Qa5 lines, only pawn play for the first 10 moves. Stuff like that. Also added is playing the same opening/pawn structure in a mini match.
I use bullet to identify what I consider annoying play and henceforth block the player, but blitz serves the same purpose.

You need to learn to deal with it, you realize if you lose to something like h3 on the first move, they are making a fool of you, even at 1700 level chess people still play stuff like that, but they don't get so lucky
I'd rather block them. Preparing for 1.h3 is not worth my chess.com time. Neither is playing against h3 on any time control. Just block the player to prevent further annoying stuff from creeping into my chess experience.

in that case I agree, imagine having a online USCF tourney in an hour, and you play blitz to get ready and your opponent plays h3
My face
-_-
How do you intend on progressing if you never learn to refute such aggressive/ overly passive play by your opponents? Some people play silly moves sure, but its up to you to refute it and show your opponent why it is a bad move. Blocking them does what exactly for your own personal growth?
Plus there are like 15m players on chess.com, you cant block all of them. Cant let unorthodox players live in your head rent free. Learn to punish silly opening moves and its easy rating points. The quicker you get over this psychological hurdle, the better your chess will become.
Noted though, if i ever play you, 1. h4 2. Rh3 is on the horizon ![]()

if you do that to me, your lost.
I'm better than you
Harry, my friend, I know you... it would be funny and a bit of an honor if you played such nonsense against me. I just come here to have fun, not to work on my chess...
A few months ago in a long thread that I launched as an appeal... I mentioned that I had started blocking players that I didn't want to play anymore. I received backlash about it, because my reasons where based on their playing style and particular openings.
For the past 10 weeks I've been blocking about 3 players on average for playing annoying chess. I wanted to share that because I think "liberal" use of the blocking feature is a good idea to make your chess.com experience more enjoyable. I wholeheartedly recommend it.
