Sorry if I offended you in any way. I should have been more civil. It’s just, my stance doesn’t support blocking players for how they play, but agree to disagree?

By all means, I'm far from being offended. I understand your position, I really do and I don't even think that my opinion is superior in any way. It's just my opinion about using the tools on this site.

You are the only one that thinks your opinion is even remotely sane and the blocking tool wasn't designed to block people who put you into uncomfortable positions that you can't figure out.

I will block people who have three distinct vowels in their username because that is against the spirit of chess as intended by the space aliens that taught the game to the first chess player, Theodore Roosevelt.

I mean, if we are going to go goofy arbitrary lets do this.

How does blocking yourself even work?

Thou shall not block at two. Four is not the number to be blocked. Three vowels all different from another is the true formula for the block. Five is right out.

So safe I am, as protect me the force does. Just like Teddy Roosevelt said when he wrote the Bible.

You could be blocked too.

GM playing IM. "I don't believe that IM didn't see the mate in 11 moves. Blocked!"

Sure, live by the sword, die by the sword. Nothing new there.

There is that. One of the best things I ever did when I signed up was notice that this community is full of bully chess players (and some bullies, overall), so I don't take anything seriously. Responses to my threads have done nothing but confirm what I first noticed.

People disagreeing with you is not bullying.

Your record is mediocre, and there's no weight of authority behind the arguments you make. I don't say that to be rude. My record is mediocre. But I'm not holding myself out as an arbiter of what constitutes "good chess" or dismissing games by world champions as somehow, nebulously "wrong".

You acknowledge that your assessment of what constitutes "bully chess" is nothing but your own opinion. You've also demonstrated that you have your own idiosyncratic idea of sportsmanship (which, given that sportsmanship is a consensus, you're pretty much *always* going to be wrong about if you come up with your own).

What these threads look like to the rest of us, therefore, is someone throwing a tantrum because people aren't playing the game the way he wants. Not very edifying, but on its own, whatever. Indeed if you didn't make a point of bragging about it, nobody would care. What's more of an issue is that you're and actively encouraging others to do the same, something which promotes intolerance in the community and which, if other people will follow your advice, will hinder their development as players.

Surely you knew what was going to happen when you posted this thread, after the last one? Posting this thread is basically trolling to start with.

I never claimed to have anything but my opinion on my side. The fact that I consider some games from the Romantics very much akin to bully chess is nothing but triffe to this thread.

I made this thread with the only goal to encourage beginners to liberally use the block feature (which many, incidentally, already use quite a bit). That I gave examples as to what constitutes behavior worthy of a block in my world is not at the core of the goal of this thread.

On the whole, that does seem to be a very negative and destructive goal. It seems you're trying to spoil their chances of improving.

It may seem that way to you (and possibly many others). Let me offer a counterargument. Which is the most hated bot by beginners? You've guessed correctly... it's Nelson. Nelson exemplifies annoying chess and there's a growing number of thread s evoted to how to beat it. The threads are mostly packed with good general advice, don't get me wrong, but that some advice can be taken and offered as the backbone to more serious chess that you can actually learn from regardless of the result, instead of learning for the result (that is to say, to beat the annoying bot).

I contend it's far better for many beginners to focus on the best way to play chess and not on taking time and effort to prepare against ridiculous "sidelines" just designed to annoy them, make them feel unworthy and generally demotivate them. But that's just MY opinion.

I had some catching up to do on this thread... as you improve the sidelines aren’t as bothersome because you understand why they are sidelines.  If all you do is play mainline theory then you are missing a big chunk of chess knowledge/ culture and most likely don’t understand the theory past mindlessly memorizing lines.

I must confess I am highly Romantic

You must block me

Please provide 90% UVA protection

Otherwise, I do not do well

ethan1122334455

totally makes sense my dude! I especially hate annoying players who play in a very haphazard fashion while not agreeing to normal standardized lines of play. Those players definitely raise my blood pressure, for sure!

IMKeto

You have to be a monumental retard for me to block someone.
