On blocking players and making the most of your chess.com experience

@wornaki I know you find online chess inferior to OTB, and bullet chess is probably where the most 'disgusting' chess is played. But the arena is different, and different rules apply. See here from my own bullet games:

and also...

This is of course nonsense and my play is disgusting. But if people will insist on premoving...

What you are doing, blocking people isn't the bad thing.

It's the reason behind it and the weak arguments you have for it.

Well, I don't intend you or anyone else to bet behind my arguments. That was not my intention when initiating the thread. I just wanted to make beginners appreciate the power of the block feature and to use it liberally.

ok ur just being stupid at this point i mean ur just makingexcuses for how you cant evend efefend against the simplest tactics

That's a valid opinion that you've got. It tells me, however, that you can't separate my contempt about certain annoying play from whether or not I win a game. Once again, I do not care about the result of the game. I do care about that kind of play, which i dislike immensely.

Wornaki, what do you think would happen if everyone on chess.com blocked people they didn't like playing against?

Nothing good.

True. It would be a very strange ... even unnormal... situation if everyone plays only with people whose Chess style he (or she) prefers.

I wrote that already.

@Strangemover Bingo, you know very well what I'm talking about. Now... there's several ways to go about that kind of play. I just happen to choose one that some here consider unfair... Eh well, you can't please them all, can you?

You do realize that I play a lot of games in which i lose badly against people that outplay me over and over and over with styles that I do not favor, right? The reason why I don't block those players is that I don't feel disgusted by their chess.

I think the site has a limit on the number of people you can block, and I've heard it's something close to 200, so I dunno how long you'll be able to carry this on.

How many people have you blocked so far? I don't think you'll be able to continue this for very long.

To the OP, what do you think of White's play in this game?

Would you block White for his aggressive attacks, if you were Black? White pretty much throws all his pieces at Black, the whole game.

Avatar of wornaki

I've blocked in excess of 100 people if my counting is in point. If/When I can't block anymore, I'll most likely stop playing live chess here

Avatar of wornaki

@KnightChecked, yes, that's disgusting chess by white. They deserve to be blocked.

I've just blocked a guy who mated me by doing the usual Q+B battery against h7. I'm tired of all those who try that. It's as boring as those who go for Scholar's mate. All of that is so disgusting that it makes me wonder why i even bother playing on this site. Other sites have less annoying players...

This was a 1 minute game...I thought you were going to stop playing these fast controls because the nonsense games were annoying you? This game though wasn't even cheapos, the guy just outplayed you.

I'm trying to play fast time controls just for the sake of playing. I don't mind being outplayed. I just dislike that kind of play. I get irritated when they go for that. I get irritated when people play the Englund gambit or the Budapest against me. I get irritated when they go for Scholar's mate. I simply do not want any of that in my online chess experience. And I've realized many people here go for that, which is not the case in other communities, both online and offline.

My conclusion looks more and more right (if that were possible), the more I go over it. It's becoming clearer by the minute. I may have to stick to daily. No blitz, no bullet, no rapid. Maybe I'll be lucky and I'll find it less annoying to play here. If I don't find that less annoying playing spot, I may have to close the account...

They say that there is other world wide Chess site... it is named liches... something like that.. but chess.com ratings are more valid than the ratings on that other site.

*Facepalm*

That was a game by Paul Morphy, one of the greatest players of all time.

Now I feel sad.

The greats could play disgusting chess too @KnightChecked. Being great doesn't prevent you from being an annoying player.

Don't you think that's a little too extreme? What if someone, in turn, finds your play annoying and bans you instead? Would that sit well with you?

Avatar of wornaki

@Abhinav0121 they may block me if they so desire. It's their right to do so. I don't mind. Blocking may seem extreme, but it's the only way to make sure I never face that opponent again.

Oh... it is my favorite King's gambit which has been played in very agressive style in this game.

Very beautiful game.

I usually don't think blocking someone is extreme, but in your case, it does seem so. Personally, if I were you, I'd just give the opponent a thumbs down when I get asked 'Was (player) a good sport?' after the match ends. But each to their own.

Man, your replic reminds me one sad situation in my childhood years.

I went to play ping-pong in my Moscow house yard. But a boy whom I started to play with... he said me that "your ping-pong style... I don't like it... Go away from here". (

And I was very depressed by his words and action. I even was about to start crying.

In fact he blocked me just as you do with some your opponents over here.
