it is generally encouraged to play the strongest players
and having -50/+150 means the “lowest” opponents will be within 50 rating points of yourself (so, essentially equal rating)
+150 means you can be paired with opponents up to 150 rating points higher
this way you are often playing opponents of equal or higher rating

The question is very simple. I'm currently rated 793 in rapid. What should my opponent rating be when I'm searching for games? I've set it to -50/+150.
