I'm a sub-1000 player with an overall win rate of 53%, but I win 61% of my games when black. I can only surmise that my offensive skills are lagging my defensive skills. Anybody else experiencing this sort of out of balance and any ideas how to close the gap?

You haven't played that many games so it's hard to say. I would use the Explorer to see if you are playing some bad line as white. You play a lot of daily chess so you many be running into book lines.
