I only play unrated games when I want to play a match against one of my friends, like @Priyansh_2011 and @NobleElevator.

Personally I take the rating as just a rough measure of where I am so if I join a tournament I'm playing people of (very) roughly the same level as it's more fun for all like that, but the rating has no real meaning. I'll never be a professional player (I'd die of starvation) I play for fun. I'd rather play a game I lose where I feel I've played well, or reached a new understanding, than win a game I've played badly.
