Play Highest Level Computer To Learn?

If I play the Computer at the highest level regularly until I win will I get better since I was told. you only get better if you play a harder opponent. is this true.

It is possibly true but I doubt anyone has ever really tried it seriously.

Most people would find it extremely depressing to get slaughtered in thousands of games. Most people wouldn't be able to learn from the lessons provided by those games.

A better approach might be to play opponents who are only slightly better than you so that you have at least some chance of winning.

++ This is all true, except the 'until I win' part: you do not win, you do not draw, you only lose, but true, you learn more.

This is an awesome idea! I never thought of this, but I could almost guarantee playing the hardest bot like stock fish on max rating would give you one heck of a good learning experience to make you the best chess player as fast as possible!

how about working your way up through all the bots ? that will keep you busy for a while.

If you want to learn, then only play a strong engine, not weakened bots.

No. You will get better if you play RAPID games vs real players not AI machines. Read chess books, analyze grandmaster games and openings, shape up your playing style, pay special attention to endgames. Focus on improving your game, not playing bots.

Computers have a distinct playing style, often favoring tactical complications. This might not fully reflect the strategic nuances and positional play you encounter against human opponents.
