playing against the computer

Why is it that I can play great against the computer and when I play an actual person I suck?

Needed the computer needed to be at a higher level. Playing level 5 now.

I guess it has to do with the extra pressure of playing against a real person :-) And the time pressure, if you play 10’ games or so. In any case, keep trying, and enjoy it ! Winning may not be the most important thing, there’s also the learning and growing and having a bit of innocent thinking fun.

Humans are unpredictable. They have varying strengths and they can make blunders and blunders often turn into wins. You never know.

Computers tend to protect their king more, whilst most clearly wasting moves and handing over material on purpose to play at a much lower level. It's not the same (or maybe like a GM allowing a student to win), but it's very good - maybe even exceptional when compared to most AI in games.

Humans don't offer take-backs.

Haven't, but very first thing that I used was the Magnus trainer app. It's alright. I think they are inspired by the chessmaster software and it's relationship with Josh Waitzkin where you play him through the years and different strengths.

Think it's a bit unfair to turn the lessons and playing the AI into two different apps, both with subscriptions. Other than that, I think they do really good stuff for phones. Said on here the other day that they are expanding and bought another company 'chessable'. Fairplay to them.
