Points loss/gain in “checkmate” vs. “stalemate”

Is there any information out there that explains the point system on Chess.com?

Reason I ask is there seems to be a huge disparity between the # of points you gain/lose in a “stalemate” vs. a “checkmate” and I’m trying to wrap my head around why that is. For example, in a game I lost by checkmate I lost 60+ points, but in another one I lost by stalemate I only lost like ~20 points.

Both are effectively resulting in “checkmate” so why the huge disparity? I don’t understand it, but acknowledge that I’m still a relative novice and probably missing something. Any insight you guys can provide is appreciated.

Thanks!

a checkmate is a win

a stalemate is a draw

as far as points gained/lost this is based on glicko rd; it is a modifier and the number fluctuates until you get a higher frequency of recent games played

Checkmate is a loss.  Stalemate is a draw.  Here's an article explaining stalemate.

Thanks guys.

@daxypoo yeah the golco rd may very well explain the point difference. Thanks for pointing that out.

@baddongo looking back at the game, I would not have been able to move without checkmating myself... so that makes sense as stalemate.

Good gravy your opponent stalemated you with queen, rook + 4 pawns vs your lone king in a daily chess game with a 14 day time control.

You can't checkmate yourself unless you're actually playing yourself. Wise words to remember.
