My usual daily routine on the site is: lesson if available, survival mode puzzle rush, daily puzzle, 5 rated puzzles, a couple 15|10 rapid games, analyze them and write notes (a brief narrative of the game and the main mistakes that I made). I supplement this with chess books and YouTube videos as time permits.
This all takes me longer than an hour, but you could cut the number of games down to one per day or switch between puzzles and games on alternate days.
I wouldn't recommend reducing the time control on the games themselves, as I think that longer time controls are more conducive to improvement since one has more time to think and to consciously apply the new material that one is studying.
This year I tried to reinvigorate my guitar playing, it was something I enjoyed, I wonder if similar could work for chess - ideas for me, and hopefully other people.
My guitar practice is over about 1 hour:
5 mins scales - just to warm up, I have a prog that gives me a ransom scale and position - so easy to just fall into the pedestrian major scales, this warms me up, with random note and positions.
15 mins - random selection of musical and technical exercises I have from books and magazines.
10 min Video lesson (i have a nice collection of video tuition, musical, songs, ideas).
15 mins jams - 3 or 4 backing tracks, just playing along with or riffling over.
15 mins actual songs, either my songs or covers.
Does anyone have any ideas for a chess practice session that is similar? Any ideas? I think and hour 3 or 4 days a week is a good thing to aim for.
