I have to confess that after playing this game for quite a while now that the majority of the games I’ve played have been won due to luck or my opponents making mistakes, you can’t use any strategy as you don’t know the moves your opponent are going to make, you can only react to their mistakes! 😆

It is true, that you can win games reacting to your opponent's mistakes, there is, however, a lot more you can do. For example, at the beginner level, learning principles and fundamentals, training tactics and making sure you don't make mistakes. Chess wouldn't be that much fun and interesting it is if it was all luck and play based on the opponent's mistakes only.

I've heard somewhere, I don't remember where, that "chess is purely a game of luck, and the more you practice the luckier you get".

Both correct, luck goes a long way! It’s still a pain in the a$$ to get whipped constantly tho 😠
