I’ve gone through the lessons and some of the puzzles for performing check mate on my opponent, but I was wondering are there puzzles for avoiding checkmate? I seem to struggle with this.

Check mate puzzles work both ways.  One of the skills you will need to do is put yourself in the mind of your opponent and try to check mate yourself.  Spend a certain amount of time before you make your move thinking like this.

+1 Learning checkmate patterns is two fold how to make them and how to avoid them.

Haven't seen any of those on this site where you defend checkmate. I guess the closest to that would be the forced draw with perpetual check in a losing position. Or escaping the opponent's checks by moving your king to the correct squares so that the opponent has no moves left to escape mate or losing material.
