reducing tactical opportunities and reaching the endgame

I am in a phase where I am trying to work on my endgame (almost exclusively for a few months). Are there openings and general strategical guidelines (more useful than "try to exchange everything") that are more likely to lead to the endgame and keeping the opportunities for tactics relatively law?

Forcing an advantageous endgame from the outset is difficult, especially if your opponent does not cooperate. There are many instances where either you or your opponent would have a better, more "tactical" option. I would try to work the Kings Indian with dxe5 (as white) and swapping queens if you are desperate for an endgame, but in most instances, playing the game out and not forcing exchanges would result in your desired endgame.

Thanks. Yes, forcing an advantageous endgame is difficult/impossible, I agree. I would say that I just would like to reach as reliably as possible a non-obviously-loosing endgame so that I can practice playing many endgames.

Thanks for the KID tip!
