SMART MOVES > FAST MOVES

After over 2000 games, I wish I knew this advice earlier. I would have won a loooooot more games.

PLAY SLOWER!!

Even in bullet and blitz, if you take your time to make smart, calculated moves it FORCES your opponent to do the same - thus, eating up his clock, as well. If he rushes, he will blunder and then it’s easy to win... either take his hanging piece, or make another move that leads you to an easy checkmate.

Seriously, had I known this, I would have won a loooot more games in even bullet and blitz.

SMART MOVES > FAST MOVES

Yes this true except when you have 5 seconds on your clock

I start to do the same thing and I won more game now

I only play 10+5 games anonymously. I often don't even look at how much time I have left, usually I naturally make use of the time I am given and end the (middle-)game with a minute or two left. That seems like a talent in itself. But anything faster and I will start to panic.

Hi! My name is Lauren Goodkind and I’m a chess coach based in California. My website is www.ChessByLauren.com.

I agree with you!  I tell my students to take their time.  But if they have less than 2 minutes on their clock, then they need to move fast.

In bullet, it doesn’t force your opponent to do the same. I legit don’t eat up clock when the enemy is using a lot of time. I just follow a wacky opening and just develop castle defend and attack. It’s really easy to win against players who play slower in bullet in blitz.

I should quite the game, anything involving talent or skill is just above my pay grqde as a complete piece of human mucus.
