Someone told me: don't stack pawns vertically. Idk why. I've been playing a few years and still see little harm.

It depends on the position. In some cases doubled pawns can be a bad thing, and in some cases they don't really matter

Does that mean that you should actively seek out doubled pawns? No

Does that mean that you should avoid doubled pawns no matter what? No

Yes generally end games it can matter more but otherwise it depends on the game but they can be good also
