Still feel like a beginner

I guess we all blunder mate in one from time to time. But this was honestly pathetic on my part. This game was mine and I blundered the most pathetic, desperate, ugly mate in one. Stupid. Absolutely stupid. AGH! The self loathing is strong after that one.

Lesson: blunder check every move and  never relax or you'll do something idiotic like this.

Hope yall have a better night than I. I'm done for the evening. Best vibes and good night.

I will NEVER forget this. This probably competes for the most painful loss I've ever experienced. This was idiocy on another level and it will be burned in my mind forever. Hopefully lesson learned as I said. Otherwise the same beginner level blunders will continue to occurr.

Sorry man, I know it's a painful loss. What was the time control?

You have to give RavshanAka some credit on the comeback. He found a nice tactic from a resignable position.

It was a 30 min game and he had 1min 48 left so no excuse happy

He will learn from this game for sure and that is why losing this way is so important!

Really no credit to give. He played the game incredibly poorly and did not deserve the win. It wasn't even a tactic that won him the game. Just a moment of brainless incompetence on my part allowing mate in one. He had no other advantage or tactic throughout the game. So really the credit goes to my own idiocy. Even my accuracy at the end of game was still higher. The evaluation had me at +18 before that disgusting mate in one!!!! There is no excuse other than I failed miserably and pathetically to prevent an ugly and embarrassing checkmate. That's on me alone.

DelightfulLiberty

Brutal.  I suggest a few rounds of flagellation with a whip of pawns, followed by a thousand hail Magnus's.  Maybe a week sleeping naked on a bed of pieces might be deserved also.  Enjoy your chess penance happy.png

Anyone can make a bad move.

Deadmanparty

After a month you can no longer blame being bad on being a beginner.  You must accept being bad as part of the human experience.

I played that position against the 3200 bot just to show you an idea of how you can convert a position like that in the future. I feel like you were so busy trying to go for mate that you forgot you had other advantages, the passed pawns. So I wouldn't move my rook off the first rank to prevent backrank mate, instead I would get their pieces to be passive defending mate and then distract them with the passed pawns. Principle of two weaknesses. Always remember, passed pawns must be pushed!

I wouldn’t sweat it. I’ve given away so many games that I lost count, but, that doesn’t matter because I only remember the good wins which wiped out all negativity.

zone_chess

Don't worry. Those mates are pretty difficult to spot. Much like the hook and Vukovic mate.

But one thing to look out for is not to get that psychological 'rushy' feeling that you might get when on the winning side. It is actually a blinding hormonal thing - you have to keep calculating because these nasty traps are often lurking. Welcome to the higher levels.
Also this stuff happens to the best of us. I fell prey to a simple Damiano's mate a few days ago. Not that I'm 'the best of us.' happy.png

Because you still are a beginner

I think sometimes the same focus needed to find a good move can also create a kind of tunnel vision in which we don't see something that will appear obvious later.

Yea, I know. Games like this affirm that in my mind at least. Horrible. I've been obsessing over this game since last night when I dropped this easy win. Not sure when I'll want to play again honestly. This game took the wind out of my sails for the time being. Played another game last night where I blundered a winning position also. Just unbelievable. Should have had five wins last night and I found a way to mess it up. 😒 Pathetic. Learn or lose. Back to the analysis board.

Don’t obsess over it because you’ll bounce back.

Me as an example, here giving the game away:

Me, same guy bouncing back with a great win against an even stronger opponent! Nothing changes.

Imagine loathing about my losses and missing out on some nice wins?

Chin up.

I am 2000 rapid and I still feel like a novice when I analyse some of my games.
