I wanted to give out some tips for beginners on how to improve. I do have a channel. with a collection of videos and I've closed to 40 years experience.
So
Tip 1. We are not masters, we do not play like masters, so don't play openings in expectations of your opponent playing the "correct" move. Play the person, not the game.
Tip 2. Do NOT, I REPEAT Do NOT!, play openings that have been gone over, played over, so much Such as Fianchetto bishop openings, or Queen's Gambit. The reason is, these openings have been, studied, played over, watched over so much that people learn how to play AGAINST these openings. So much so that if you do not play the opening PERFECTLY and I mean 99% you will get crushed and if you are rated 1200 or under you simply don't.
Tip 3. Do Not Get attached to your Queen, The power of the queen is felt, not seen, Potential is more dangerous than the actual threat. For when you see the queen it's already too late. If however the Queen gets taken, Know how to finish the job she started, Don't just resign because you lose the queen, The game isn't lost by the 1st mistake, its lost by the 3rd or 4th.
Tip 4. Fight until the end, Unless it is blatantly obvious such as you play against an experienced player that knows their end game, never resign.
Tip 5. The point of studying an opening, is so you can get to a point where you can play the 1st 20 moves and it does not matter what your opponent does. You are playing those exact 20 moves, this frees up your mind to think of the middle and end game. So it is properly a good idea to study the end games more than the openings.
Controversial Tips from experience
The people we play against at our level ARE not masters.
so 1. Learn the books material, then throw it out. meaning understand know the openings know when people deviate from the book openings.
Players who play solely by the Book or lines are predictable and become easy to beat, -e.x Alexandria Botez bot, I played about 60 times it's rated 2300 or something, It plays the same sort of moves over and over. I learnt those moves and by game like 62/3 I beat it. Where as an unpredictable bot like her Sister's its harder to beat.
This is where, I would introduce you to my style of Chess Do or Die. It brings Bullet style chess to normal chess, I been playing since I was 4, I started playing like this since 14 and I'm still playing it now 39. The reason it works because it relies on the fundamental principle of chess, it is a game built on mistakes. Knowing you or the person you face will screw up, trusting it, waiting for it and exploit. Because The perfect game of a chess is always a draw, a game with no mistakes.
This is why, I play the Do or die Chess.
Hardcore Book style chess players will tell you it's wrong,
The Computer will hate it when you analyze games.
Stronger players will scoff at it, However it works.
Because of that 1 thing, None of the books, computers or any teaching tool can account for. That 1% Human error, and knowing most Cling to the book style like a crutch so much so, simply stopping people from Castling is enough to send people panicking. It throws them off their normal game. There is no in between on this, The Wins look fantastic, the loses are ugly.
If you or I lose it is because I screwed up.
and if you are someone who worries about what other say, In rebuttle to "You only won because they screwed up." - That is Chess
