I'm a new player looking for someone to teach me some opening and overall improvements. I'd like to play a few practice games. I'll appreciate you're assistance.

FWIW... two common mistakes:

1) Focusing on the openings

2) Asking your coach to play games with you.

...

So if that's what people do wrong, then what is correct?

Something like playing long games, solving untimed tactic puzzles, and playing over annotated GM games.
