Terrible Tilt

I've taken a break for a week and my tilt isn't gone. In my last two games I blundered a winning position and just self pinned. Do I take a longer break or what?

MrIndia

I haven't taken breaks longer than a day lol

Maybe play some blitz before rapid to get the rust off?

Vlandian_Knight

I don't believe in tilts.

Study a bit, try a new opener, you will be fine.

Tilt is an in-the-moment thing. Most people should be able to un-tilt in less than 1 hour if they can distract themselves with a different activity.

Even on a good day, everyone has played an embarrassingly bad game here or there. Running away to take a break after each time this happens will probably only tilt you more lol. I think it's better that after some frustrating losses, you can calm down and keep playing right away. If you're truly upset, you know, if you want to punch the screen, then sure, take a break, but other than that I don't think there's a reason to stop playing.

AunTheKnight

Ah, thanks for the responses.

After humiliating losses, I play games with knights chopping things up, and then come back the next day. happy.png

Omg viznik he's in it...

Also aun based on what I know on your gameplay this is mainly a mental problem for you, you're too hard on yourself and are focusing on rating instead of enjoyment.

Ah, alright. I have no clue why I care for my rating... if I improve, it'll go up.

Ah, alright. I have no clue why I care for my rating... if I improve, it'll go up.

The only reason I want a higher rating is to play stronger people and have more FUN playing chess.

I should start thinking that way...

We all have bad games/days/weeks even months. Either play for fun and not care about the results or stop playing if you feel like you aren’t in shape to play that day and go solve puzzles/read a book/watch a chess video on YouTube.

Online ratings aren’t something to obsess over. Nobody’s going to give you money for your online rating or a title. It’s just a digital number to help pair you with those around your skill level. Your focus shouldn’t be did I win or gain rating points each game, it should be did I enjoy the challenge of the game, and what can I learn from the game? You can lose every game and yet play better each game.

i agree, if your head is not into chess that day stay away or else you will do something dumb and multiply your anxiety.    Having said that maybe you didn't enjoy the challenge of the game because you did something stupid (hence wanting to punch the computer lol), but yes it is only a game
