the knight bot is bullshit
And dont say #3 he’s just playing pretend moderator.
@1AncientConcavenator I think if the forum title contains a swear word, it may or may not be adjusted by mods. However, the URL of the forum stays the same. I know that from another forum. By the way, #SilksongHype
Just play with concentration and take advantage when the bot starts making mistakes, that's how you win

I’m on app so I can’t make an analysis board
Here's your game Josh11live (I see you're white in this game). And yes, that's far more typical of bot play for the rating they list it as, it just starts giving up pieces for no reason (the knight on move 10, for example) and then proceeds to get trashed, falling for forks and so forth.
I don't know how they set the bots up, but it may be that lower rated bots only know a couple openings, and perhaps this one is programmed to "know" the French (maybe even only the Advance variation), which I played. As a result, in my game maybe I played into the bot's prep, while you played a d4 game and perhaps the bot is given less opening knowledge for those (i.e. it's a bot simulating someone who only knows 1. e4 ... games for both sides)?
Regardless of my speculations, in the game I played, once beyond the opening, the bot started giving away pieces, losing its Bishop to a simple tactic, and later giving up pieces for pawns (the sort of thing I associate with <1000 bot play). But if the bot "knows" the opening, then it will score high for that portion of the game, resulting in a higher rating in the game review (I presume).
Also, depending upon how they hobble bots to bring their play down to the targeted Elo, it may be that the positions I had didn't play into the bot's algorithmic weaknesses, so it looked stronger in this game than it normally would?
I just remember during this game thinking it was playing better than I expected and that it seemed to take quite a bit longer than I expected for it to fall over. I've only played it the one time, so perhaps it was an anomaly and at the points where it has options to choose various moves it just got lucky in that the algorithm randomly picked the better moves a bit more often than expected early in the game?
Anyway, nice game Josh11live, you crushed it from the start and never looked back. Well done.
I think this is a "you" problem, OP. This bot is very easy.
Update: I've found that sometimes it can play decently (embarrassingly, it took me two tries to beat it as Black because I played too fast and blundered badly on my first attempt), but for the most part it's rated appropriately. Just like almost every bot, if you just play normally, don't hang anything and wait for the inevitable blunder, you'll be fine.
Hi Fr3nchToastCrunch,
Yah, that looks more like what I expected, but interesting that you found its strength to be variable with sometimes producing decent play. Perhaps that's part of this bot's "personality"? It's "streaky"? Regardless, your advice to play normally and solid (i.e. blunder check and look for opportunities) is spot on.
