Thx for bumping this is truely a great post.

I actually just made a similar post about the difference between studying tactics and solving puzzles.. I feel both posts are about the same thing essentially, but mine offers some advise on how to work at it while keeping it still fun and not too challenging to the point you just get tilted wink.png (what happened to me alot, resulting in avoiding working at it)

It's that time again. Too bad this post hasn't been "stickied" yet...

A well-deserved bump!

This is an excellent, instructive post.

On a side note, I've spoken with Llama several times over the years. An excellent player with a sharp mind. I wonder if he's still around ... He always had something insightful to say.

I dunno I haven't heard from him in probably a year or more. I liked talking to him as well

Definitely llama was sharp and clear. I hope he shows up again.

An idea.
Always assume there are tactics in a position until you become sure enough there aren't. Whether your move or your opponent's.
If there are tactics you've got to take care of them in forming your move and your preparation.
And when you find tactics - have you found all of them in the position in front of you?
If there's a lot of tactics in the position in front of you - or they're deep - or both - then you might not be able to figure it out or not perfectly.
The idea: Find them! Don't worry. Just find. Then decide what you're going to do about that. After finding. Then - you have to think and decide on a move!
Too. If its not your move - still the same otherwise. Find the tactics!
