Chernev's books Logical Chess and The Most Instructive Games of Chess Ever Played are good ones that give you a lot of examples of good chess play across a wide range of openings.

The Yasser Seirawan series of books is also pretty good. Since he is a GM technically it is GM strategies, but it is presented in a way that is very light and digestible.
