their are so many things i dont understand about chess

Why does the timer go up in the last 15seconds when its supposed to be a 10minute game
Since when does time work in a way where if your down to your last 15seconds you gain time.. Is that how life works?
And why does black always lose
You do lose more than you win as black, but it's not quite always...
