Tips for beginner?

Hi all, I am looking to get into chess. However, with so much material and knowledge out there I feel pretty swamped. Any tips on how to get started? Should I learn openings? Buy a specific book? Any help is appreciated!

I use the lessons , videos from the chesscom app. I like them. Also in combination with the game analysis after a game. I think a good way to start to go threw the stuff on chess.com it helped me a lot… but also even the best players have yt/twitch channels where they share their knowledge

Don't play faster games than 30/0, you will develop bad habits

I wouldn’t buy any books initially. I’d play rapid or longer games and review them afterwards. I’d solve some chess puzzles each day. I’d look up opening principles online and learn them. Find a stronger player willing to play unrated games with you and talk about why they are making the moves they are, so you can see how stronger players think and evaluate positions. I’d also suggest looking at each position with the CCT position evaluation method. It standards for checks, captures, and threats. Each time it’s your move, look at any move that checks the king first, then any move that captures something, then any move that threatens something. Doing so helps force you to see and understand the position more, spot any immediate issues you need to look at, and hopefully locate any free material hanging around.

Here's an excellent course that can help you along the way:

Regularly play rapid (15|10 and above) time format games to put your understanding to the test. This is especially important for consolidating basic tactical themes, like undefended pieces, forks etc.

Don't make a fake account asking the same question  that has been asked thousands of times.
