Same thinking.
It has nothing to do with age. On the contrary the higher the age, the slower the time control should be. On the other hand it has to do with rating.
Rapid for non-titled players.
Blitz for titled players.
Bullet for grandmasters.
Stop... playing rapid?! Never... Rapid is such a great way to improve.
You present challenging moves/combinations to your opponent, and they get time to think about a good/strong reply, which in turn challenges you to consider appropriate responses. Bullet a lot of games are won or lost by simple blunders and quality games do not get the love and attention they deserve.
Theres still a place for bullet dont get me wrong.. but a nice "slow game" should always be apart of your playing, especially if you want improvement.
I am 81 and have played/studied chess since my teens. My Rapid rating is 90th percentile. I play okay in Blitz - around 70th percentile. I'm not very successful at Bullet, but I love playing 2/1, and I sometimes have streaks where I do well - I wouldn't want to say how many Bullet games I have lost on time with an overwhelming advantage, but I just can't make my ancient reflexes make the moves! I love chess and I hope I will still be playing when I pass the century mark.
