what does the flashing lights mean and why did i lose

i started getting into chess recently and i was playing a game and the time started flashing and after a little i lost? I'm really confused.

The chess.com clocks flash when your internet has connection issues to the chess.com server for live chess/disconnects; it has nothing to do with chess itself. If you lost that game, then frustratingly it was due to connection. If it is consolation, I've lost many games (several of them I was winning by a lot!) that way, but I figure that long-term it more-or-less balances for everyone since everyone will have connection issues here or there.

If you click on play and then live game, your game will still be there if you do that in time.

Sometimes your internet (or chess.com) is faulty, so the lights flash.

And then you lose if you can't get back onto the game.
