How many traps?

Well, the best opening depends on your playing style and the opponent's opening too. You have to analyze. With time, experience and chess knowledge you will be able to do this very well. 😉

Blitzer1618

At a beginner level, the Italian game. For intermediate players, the King's Indian. Both involve long, easy-to-remember opening lines that lead to intense theory-based games for both ends of the board.

Every opening that's frequently played in high level chess is good for both sides. There are dozens of those. Singling out one of them is just nonsense.

"Singling out one of them"
++ Ruy Lopez is most played at top level: 14 out of 56 games in the Toronto 2024 Candidates'.
AlphaZero singles Ruy Lopez out as well: Figure 30

Referencing those AlphaZero papers in 2024 is a bad joke. 5 years have passed, today's top engines running on a supercomputer are much-much stronger that AZ.

AlphaZero was by no means strong enough to correctly analyze openings. It was a shameful act to pretend that it was. That paper is nothing else than a media hack.

++ Apparently today's top engines running on a supercomputer agree on the Ruy Lopez, as it was most played in the Toronto 2024 Candidates' and they prepared their games with those.
The paper was from 18 August 2022.

I never said that the RL does not qualify. I said that it does, along with a dozen others (or more). Singling out one opening from many is misleading and nonsensical.

The difference between the AZ papers and top grandmaster preparation is also enormous. A top grandmaster picked RL (for white or for black or even both) because it would be good for for him specifically against the field he's about the face. They don't make any claim that "RL is the best". For the next tournament they might prepare something else.

"For the next tournament they might prepare something else."
++ It was the same in the Madrid 2022 Candidates': 12 Ruy Lopez, more than anything else.
It was the same in the recent World Championship Matches: most Ruy Lopez.
So the response to the question
'What is the best opening for BOTH sides at the same time' is: Ruy Lopez.

TheGreatFelix04
How many traps does the Ruy Lopez opening have for BOTH SIDES?

Chess is not about traps, but about good moves.
Some swift games are possible:
