In a game of chess, the most terrifying piece is undoubtedly the one that makes us lose, the one that checkmates us. There are 32 pieces on the chessboard, and our own pieces are our allies in achieving victory.

Simple: its relative to their position. Think of a queen on a1 a king in a5, king in h2 and a pawn on a7. Since a pawn is "weaker" than a queen the queen is winning right? A8=Q now you skewer the king to the queen and you win so therefore the pawn prevails but what if the queen was on a8? The queen would take the pawn so therefore the queen prevails or a king on h1 a queen on e3 a king on d4 and a bishop on g3 ofc u should play bf2!! Forcing a draw

In older variations of chess, before the queen. There was a piece called the Advisor/Ferz. This piece can only move one square diagonally. I would say this is the worst piece.

The one left hanging.

king obviously, it only moves one square at a time and even though it can castle, it is a vulnerable weak spot all the other pieces have to protect, even pawns are better because they can be sacrificed without too much loss and can en passant and promote. knights are close third; they have short range and are bad for the end game but are useful for forking and jumping over pieces. then bishops, which despite having long range, are limited to one color square. then rooks, which are completely perfect in every way. (Except that they cannot move diagonally) and then queen for obvious reasons. however, if we take into account piece aesthetics, the knight wins best piece, second goes to king third to queen, fourth to rook fifth to bishop, and last place to pawn. if we evenly factor all variables ( usefulness, aesthetics, and special abilities,) the best piece is still the queen which despite having no special abilities, still dwarfs other pieces through sheer power. next is pawn (hear me out) it has more special abilities than any other piece and can literally turn into ANY PIECE YOU WANT. plus, you can sacrifice it without much stressing, it is expendable. 3rd is knight, it dominates through aesthetics, and it has a cool system of moving that is completely unique. 4th is rook, narrowly overtaking the king through power, and usefulness in in endgames, ladder mates, skewering, etc. 5th is king, with a special move of castling, and great aesthetics. lastly, the bishop, which looks ugly, can only go on one color, has no special moves, and is only useful for diagonal things.

"knights are close third; they have short range and are bad for the end game"

I disagree. Knight can attack/defend either colour square; I'd rather have one than a bish in the endgame. I expect that some clever individual will now tell me that "it depends upon the position". Really?
