Hi namphong, kabojja is already friends with me if that's what you mean
I really recommend for beginners
1. The colle system for white (colle koltanowsky) the only opening you should learn as white
2.against 1)e4 play pirc defense
3. Against 1)d4 play the dutch defense
4. Against everything else, still the dutch defense, you can play the same dutch ideas you play against 1)d4 to eveything else except when white plays 1)b4
The reasons are:
The colle system is easier than the london, the plans are very straightforward, but also it is a strong opening as well, solid with no clear weaknesses, all the pieces get developed without problems, and you get good opportunities for a kingside attack.
The pirc defense, like the colle it is easy to play, but it less straightforward so you have more plans to select, very solid and also it can be very dynamic. A good choice for all time controls (it can be played well without thinking too much and also it can be a deep opening for classical chess)
The dutch may be the weaker choice in this list, but you can dodge the cold play of the double queen's pawn, without recurring to something like the englund gambit. More piece play than the traditional double queen's pawn and still a safe king.
Also you can use it against the other white first moves, so you can use most of your time to study the other aspects of chess, or of your life
As a beginner/intermediate player I would like to increase the number of openings in my repertoire. The openings I have gotten very good at are all related to each other:
Giuoco Piano
Italian Game
Fried Liver Attack
I have learned many traps thanks to gothamchess but I want to take my openings to the next level. Many people recommend the KIA but it seems a little complicated. Any recommendations?
I'm a beginner too, so my recommendations possibly aren't any good, but the London System was one that, as a beginner, really appealed to me. It struck me as a very neat and solid system, that one could see would set you up in a good solid position for the middle game. It's also a very satisfying one, aesthetically, on the board, and there are lots of master games to look at, that use it, and videos to watch about it. Hope you're having as much fun learning about chess as I am. There's a whole world of chess waiting for us beginners to explore.
