I learned how to play chess 48 years ago, at the age of 9.  I didn't start studying the game until I was in my 20's though.  By then, it's too late to get to 2000.   Back in my day, we didn't have free Tactics Trainers and Puzzle Rush to improve our tactics or free online chess lessons where we could learn middlegame positions arising from certain openings.   All we had was books and magazines, which I couldn't afford to buy.   Also, I had other interests than just chess (girls, partying, music, dancing, karaoke, video games, watching tv, etc.).   So, if I added up the time that I actually studied chess, it's probably more like 5-10 years, not 48.   Btw, getting from 1500 to 2000 will probably take longer than you think (around 10-30 years).   I went from 1200 to 1500 in about 3 years, but it took me about 25 years to go from 1500 to 1800.   You really gotta want it and be willing to sacrifice everything else in life.   It helps that you young guys have free training online though.   I didn't have that.

Ah I see. I understand. Reading this makes me afraid of my journey further.... Will I ever be able to reach 1800+....

I'm not trying to scare you off or dissuade you from studying chess.   Just saying that getting to 2000 isn't as easy as you think.   I don't know how old you are, but if you're young enough, you might be able to get there in 2-5 years, if you devote your entire life to chess.   You'll have to sacrifice a lot of other things in life though.  I wasn't willing to make those sacrifices.

I don’t see why anyone should be obligated to resign. Even if they have only the king left, they can still try for a stalemate. If you can’t win the game properly, then you need to improve your endgame anyway.

Good rhyming. But it isnt true.

The rhyming of Itude,

Is dull and rather crude,

At least it wasn't lewd,

But he likely typed it nude.

This is an example of why not to resign u1200. He was down a rook but I blundered my queen.

there are players that will happily trade 2 rooks for a queen

I once traded my queen for 2 rooks, against an FM, and got a draw.

You need not be one instead. Things were sorted out earlier .

Probably because it can be someone's name.  I posted on here once that I used to play chess against a guy named Dick Studley.   True story, btw.

Just calling out some bad behavior. If that makes me a d*ick then sure. I'm glad you worked it out and feel better about mocking someones ability. There are a lot of people here who love chess but will never get above 1000; no need to make them feel bad.

u dont need to be rude about it @Anonymous_Dragon, ur just trying to brag that u got to 1500 in six months, which is pretty good tbh

PleasantEscalator

the same thing to me, I was 800 last year I gained 1k points in a year...

I wasn't being rude. And even if I was... the person at whom the message was intended at didn't take it that way ...or even if he did things got sorted out politely

I wasn't making anyone feel bad. And there was no reason for you to bring it up when the other guy had responded politely and things were calm.

those of us that have played for more then 40 years may have been trying to xreate own openings and games to play against different stratagies always thinking out side the box not just book learned stategies .
