Why am I better against the computer?

Obviously very new to Chess (and yes I got turned on to CHESS by The Queens Gambit Netflix series...).  I'm comfortable with my low rating and learning a little every day so my losses are getting squeekier and the rating is going up if only slightly.  However, I do way better against the computer than I do in live games - even unrated ones - and without takebacks.  Any thoughts as to why that is?

The computer ratings are generally overrated.

My BODY is absolutely on FIRE for CHESS after binging The Queen's GAMBIT.

Also, the computer makes inhuman mistakes that are far easier to see and capitalise on.

I think it comes down to the computer is designed to fail. So failure is more consistent- shows similar mistakes. You can find similar faults in games if you play a series against computer, while human opponent will make more irregular or inconsistent mistakes. And maybe blunders are more obvious due to the rhythm of play - you get time to think & cOmPuTe, anticipating what might be played and the computer tells you in a short delay.

Hi am new to chess. Just signed up the other day. Is there a specific area on this site that allows one to connect with and play against other beginners?

Cheers

go to live chess and just press play. chess.com rating and matchmaking will make sure that you play against people on your level most of the time.

Maybe you aren't playing against others of a simular leevel. with the computer it kinda dapts to your level a bit better

i think the bots are just programmed to make certain errors, whereas a human player might do something more unexpected

True! I beat 2100 bots and I am only 1500. So you are saying a 2300 (FM) could beat a Hikaru bot (Super GM)?

Well that is not for me I feel like, I don't like playing engines because the way I play with white is: "GAMBIT! ATTACK! WIN!" and engines are like you're terrible when I do that... I like to play gambler's bluffs who work against humans

Which bots?

One thing to keep in mind is that bots prefer certain openings. You'll play a lot of King's Indian with the chess.com bots, but real peeps prefer Gucciano Piano and Accelerated London System.

Robots also blunder like a robot. They tend to make moves that no human would ever move, like shuffle the king when there is no reason to.  Human blunders always look like good moves from a certain perspective.
