Why is my puzzle rating so much higher than my game rating?

I'm new to chess, and I'm bad--hovering between 500-600 in rapid. However, my puzzle rating has been hovering around 1500 and is now nearly 1700. Nothing about my rapid stats suggests that my tactics are better than my rating--in fact, they suggest that my tactics may be worse than my rating. So why is there such a big difference between my puzzle rating and my rapid rating?

I think everyone's puzzle rating is higher than their rapid or blitz rating... Individual puzzle ratings aren't really a reflection of how good you are in a game.

Same situation, I'm 2100 in Rapid, but I am somehow 3000 in puzzles. It's probably because puzzles are easy for me until 2100 rating, and I somehow got to 3000

Its mostly a rating of your persistence really.

solving puzzles is completely different from playing a game of chess. you don't have the time pressure and the stress of playing chess when you're solving a chess puzzle. plus, in puzzles you kinda know what you're suppose to do. you either have to give checkmates or capture a piece or even promote a pawn or etc. however in a chess game you have to find a way to victory by yourself so it's harder

The way they determine the elo rating of the puzzles is different.

Play 15+10 or 5+5. Always incriment.

Maybe you will have the time to find tactics.

also consider something counterintuitive: Play more positionally.

When you play a positional opening like 1.d4 you are not saying "this game will not be tactical", you are in most cases delaying the tactics to a later stage, proceeded by more subtle maneuvering and quietly developing middle games. Because the tactics happen later in positional games, they tend to be more decisive and feature less counterplay possibilities. The critical moments that arrive later in the game from d4 openings often lead to tactical fireworks, actually...

I can give an example from your game:

So when you start wild and wacky, you have long term issues and mess in your position.

It's not really about 1.d4 or 1.e4 it's about an attitude more... Don't play "wacky" from the start, believing that's your forte... Rather trust yourself to find the tactics when they flow from a superior position

Strive to get very solid and calm games, with increment your tactical ability should show.

And last but not least don't be contempt with your ability in puzzles, you can probably hit 2000 puzzles, push yourself!

Good luck

It seems you will continue to get points for every puzzle you solve so it's not a true ELO system. That's why there are people who have scored over 65,000 in the leaderboard. So the puzzle rating is just a measure of how much you like puzzles.

I think it comes down to the fact that… the game isn’t like a puzzle, or at least not at first. This is where fundamentals come in and learning not to blunder pieces. The puzzles let you see more, but you also need to “make the game state into a puzzle” I’ve heard through the opening and the mid game, etc

The puzzles are a good indicator that a tilt is coming. When I start messing those up it's time to hit the bots. I was over 2,000 with the puzzles and now I have dipped and my playing has too.

Take puzzles for what they are : a useful exercise ( very useful, according to many experts ), and in addition, if you like to solve them, a great pastime.
