Will I EVER Be Good?

I've been stuck under 200 elo for several months now, and I'm starting to think I might just not be made for chess, even though I want to be good. Am I the problem? Will I ever be good? Is it even worth trying one more time?

I looked at your last 4 losses and in all of them you used less than 2 minutes. You'll struggle to win games or build chess knowledge if you're playing that fast. Each turn consider at least 3 moves and make a list of pros and cons to each and you'll rocket in rating.

You are Resigning in Winning positions.

You are Winning? Just capture the Knight?

You asking if you will ever be good.

Than I look at several of your games and your crushing you opponents.

Than you are resigning.

I’m not sure what your talking about.

Your just giving away your victories.

It is extremely weird.

Chess is a complex game, even at lower levels. Beginners often underestimate the time and effort required to build foundational skills. The fact that you're stuck under 200 Elo is not a reflection of your potential—it simply means you may need a structured approach to learning.

that makes a lot of sense structured "approach to learning" ------- where is that available that does not cost a arm and leg????

You can teach yourself, but it has to be a plan and not just playing a lot of blitz.

Things that help:

Review every game, preferably only using the engine when you have questions

Do puzzles every day

Read/watch end games and positional studies

Have 1 long time control, 100% focus, game a day, as your first game of the day.

I have your improvement plan. Can you please stop advertising it? It's clearly not helping me.

Knight to c4?

You'll never be good at anything if instead studying and training you keep wasting your time on posting these whiny "look at me" threads.

What is the point of playing games like this?

This is a 10 minute game. On move 2, you spent 3 seconds (???) and banged out the worst move on the board. (Okay, technically it's the third worst move, but the other 2 are not easy to find).

Don't play random moves. Use your time and think. Try to find good moves.

Thanks for the puzzle.

I certainly agree with playing slower games, doing puzzles learning and opening and sticking to it long enough to feel comfortable around it. One thing that seemed to have helped a lot too was watching speed runs made by Eric Rosen, he really goes in depth of how to properly use tactics from low elo to higher levels, worth a look!

Something you might find interesting about this is that (on the L*chess database):

The longer the time control, the more that g6 is played in that position (in the lower rating ranges ofc), though I can't rule out the cause being the different ratings across time controls.

On another note, how is it technically the 3rd worst move? Ke7 is the worst as it allows mate in 1, followed by Qg5 and Qh4 giving away the queen.

True. Nice find.

But anyway, the core of my advice was "Don't play random moves".

Everyone is on their own chess journey and the fixation on winning/losing will make you burnout. Focus on your process of learning. There's not going to be a silver bullet but I recommend finding a coach to give you guidance and direction.
