use any mathemathic characters to solve this puzzle .

8 8 3 3 = 24

nobody could solve this ?

could you define "any mathematic characters"

must we retain the order of the numbers?

you can use the parenthesis

Avatar of TheGrobe

8 + 8 + 3 + 3 != 24

Avatar of tazerdadog

8^0 x8x3x 3^0=24

or am I not allowed the zeroes?

Avatar of tazerdadog

8+8+3+3!=25...

Avatar of TheGrobe

I think zeros are probably out:

(8+8+3+3) · 0 = 24 · 0

Avatar of TheGrobe

This works though:

8/(8-3!)x3! = 24

Avatar of tazerdadog

8-3! =5!=1x2x3x4x5=120

8/120=1/15.

1/15x6 =(2/5)  try again.

Avatar of tazerdadog

8+8+3+3+22.  not 24.

8/(3-(8/3)) = 24

Avatar of Chesspanzer

You use division :)

8/(3-(8/3))

Avatar of TheGrobe

8-3! = 8-6 = 2 not 120.

8/(8-3!) x 3!

= 8/(8-6) x 6

= 8/2 x 6

= 4 x 6

= 24

And I said that 8+8+3+3 != 24 not 8+8+3+3 = 24 -- since ! is arguably acceptable as a mathematical symbol that negates equation I think it's also a valid solution (albeit a bit of a cop-out)

Avatar of tazerdadog

oh okay, you are missing 2 sets of parenthesis then.  it needs to be (8/(8-(3!)))x3!

that does work, nice idea

Avatar of tazerdadog

8+8+3+3!=25...

Avatar of TheGrobe

Order of operations dictates that factorial gets applied before subtraction so the parentheses aren't necessary.
