An IQ test

A train is picking up speed with a constant acceleration.  The first link, which is the link that connects the locomotive to the rest of the train, is under some tension.  Would you expect the first link to have more, less or the same amount of tension as the last link?  When the train slows down, the links are under compression.  Would you expect the first link to have more, less or the same amount of compression as the last link?  What about when the train is going at a constant speed?  You can neglect air resistance and friction.

nice n easy.

I'd say the first link is under more pressure until the train stops accelerating, and it also has more pressure when slowing down (assuming only the first carridge has a engine and brakes and the rest don't).

What is the missing word?

 Hint: It's an instrument.

Piccolo and Contrabass,

Flute and Cello,

Oboe and      (?)     .

To be honest when I first read that, and he mentions 'keys' I instantly thought of gas lamps, with an iron lock. If indeed the lights were key based, you just take all 3 keys into the next room and try them all! Laughing

That is good.  Maybe I made it too easy.  :)

now azukikuru has explained that the "key" is not a key but a switch I do understand, but on a side note why would you have 3 lamps in one room and the switches in another?

That makes me think of something I heard a coworker say, have you ever seen a two pole 3 wire clothes dryer device. I replied, yes , but those are now 3 pole 4 wire by code in Ohio. He replied, I was talking about my grandmother's clothes line in her back yard.

In general with regards to the idea of an IQ test:

I have found them to be biased in several ways. Questions that have more than one feasible answer, but no merit given for being open minded. Or worse yet, the correct answer depending up whether or not they like you, or feel like allowing it to be right. The other is their inability to isolate raw intelligence. Is a 50 year old who has an iq of 150 more intelligent than a 1 year old who has an iq of over 200. No, but I bet every test I've seen given, the 50 year old will appear to have a higher iq.

Never let the opinion of another define you, even though we do need the opinions of others to help give everything relevance.

something tells me it very well could be tissue paper-and-comb, or the guitfiddle.

I am not so well musically educated to know something like ,the parts of the staff each instrument can cover, but I tend to think that is the correlation that is used to determine the pairings. I'll try bassoon for $100 Alex...
