Ok... if you read the other comments, there are full-on explanations on why they are not equal. Technically, they are equal point value, but, it depends on position and other stuff.

The difference is the colour of the squares they are on. Bishops stay on half the board all the time and Knights go to all the board half the time.

Whenever I started a new junior group session this is the question I would ask. They would split into two groups and then argue the case for each piece. This would warm them up before anything else, even before the setting up of boards.
