This is the answer I had in mind. Though I'm still interested in the ostrich answer if it has an explanation.

I think Sothilde was just taking a wild guess, and the other guy agreed with him 'cause he's a poser. And neither of them want to admit it.

(should get an answer out of them now)

Don't you have to be good looking to be a poser? I'll take that as a compliment. Thank you ivandh!

"poser" is an American slang insult meaning a fake or wanna-be. It doesn't mean a model.

Or does it?

hmmm! Yes or does it? And why do Americans say they speak English when clearly they can't? Suggestions?

This was just supposed to be a fun  thread with a joke in it.  Have I really done something to offend you?

calm down people, let's call it a draw now shall we

Now now Loomis, you started the insults by calling me a poser with the intention of offending me which you didn't. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Why don't you go back and read the thread to see that I didn't call you a poser.

Sorry Loomis i do apolagise, it was Ivandh that called me a poser. It was because you asked if you'd done something to offend you ( me )? Again sorry!

Yes, 'poser' is a slang word, and will not be found in any dictionary with 'wannabe' for a synonym. Americans speak American English and can't be insulted for speaking differently from Brits. Right now, I am taking Spanish classes. I live in Arizona (Southwestern U.S.), so they are teaching us 'Mexican Spanish.' There are different classes if you want to learn 'Classic Spanish,' and different classes for the Mexicans trying to learn English between 'Classic English' and 'American English.' We shouldn't be critisized for keeping the language of our immigrant ancestors and then letting the language evolve.
