Distracting your opponents..by being a chatterbox.

What's that chat box there used for, people? Chatting, obviously. Or maybe other things. Like, some awe-strucking way to get an edge over your opponents? Messing with them a little, just to get a time advantage? Oh yes, everything works.

This actually worked once, I must say. This one guy was foolish enough to let me distract him, for atleast 2 minutes. And guess what? I still lost. But still, it worked, and that's what matters. Now, I present upon thee wenches, this amazing and mostly ineffective...I mean, effective way to get an edge over your opponents.

When your foe is in a complex position, taking a really long time to move, interrupt him by sending a message. Lots of them. Preferably, over 9000 messages.

About mostly everything, I daresay. For example: your favorite game, your favorite chess player, your favorite food, your favorite pet, your favorite book, your favorite hobby, your favorite celebrity, your favorite comedian, your favorite character, and many, many more.

"But George, don't you think this is rude? Cheating in CoD or *insert random mmorpg here*? Acceptable, but in chess? Oh, I'll have your head."

May the smartest of them all win. Im not a good player, I'm a smart player. Nice players aren't that tough in chess, only smart ones are. Lol

(Warning: Don't take this thread too seriously)

Try this, people. After you've won or lost that game, tell us your story. Here's mine:

Me: Greetings, my fellowman.

Then, my opponents proceeds to do the same.

Him: Umm...bonjour, monsieur.

This time, I was playing a 30 minute game against someone. And no, don't even ask me about showing the game. You oughta find it yourself, you lazy sloth.

And then time passed. 15 minutes, or so. We had an incredibly closed position, with many possible moves and threats. Therefore, my opponent took his time in making one. However, when he was calculating complex moves in his head, I did not. And then I proceeded to spam random messages.

Me: Hey, did you know bobby fischer wasn't good in double-edged positions?

Me: He was so terrible at them, that he had trouble converting a winning position into a won position. Quite absurd, I must say.

Me: And did you know? The first book ever made was about chess. Even in the old times, people were already trying to explore this magnificent game.

Me: And did you know? My favorite food is pie.

Him: Can you PLEASE be quite? I'm trying my hardest to concentrate here.

Me: Oh my, it seems that you've made a spelling mistake. Quiet isn't spelled that way, you silly buffoon.

And you can pretty much guess what happened next. I continued to spam more useless messages, continuing to interrupt him and his thought processes. He got pretty angry, and this caused him to make some pretty strange moves.

Dude seriously? Geez.  It only takes one click to disable the chat box when anybody attempts that "strategy" of yours.  I think you are better of thinking the game through if you care enough about chess. Now, please be quite and play Smile

I start off from the beginning, "Greetings, good luck. Sorry, I am not much of a chatter, need to concentrate."

If they try and do what OP suggests, I disable chat.

Lol, not really. I can still calculate some moves even while typing :) And If I was successful in distracting him, then at least I'll get a time advantage. My WPM is 67. Beat that, you rat.

Also lake, it seems to me that you've made a spelling mistake. (lol it rhymes) Quiet isn't spelled that way, you silly buffoon.

I know, i know. Just trying to make things 'round here more...exciting.

If that happens, I usually try to win even harder, before putting the other guy on my noplay-list. :-)

Dude!  The misspelling was on purpose because it is in your story or you forgot already?  At least Sharrocks noticed.  Cheers.
