Yes. A 1700 played 1.a4. Then 2. h4. Then they later recovered a slightly worse position and blundered their queen. Then tried to attack my king. They had a mate in one (after I made my move) but, I checkmated them first!
Do you think (some) really good players "toy" with lower-rated players?

For example intentionally playing some bad moves in the opening (perhaps even things like 1. e4 then 2. Ke2) making their opponent think "wow this guy must be a beginner, I will win easily), then a few moves in the good player starts playing to win knowing he will easily be able to recover?
