Funny things about your average game.

My chess games are unusual. Down by a queen, win anyway. Up by a minor piece, lose.

What's unusual about your average game?

What is unusual about my games: I sometimes find myself in time trouble but my opponent turns out to play as if he was in time trouble!!... then he blunders... and loses! I dont understand why people just dont use the time they have instead of trying to 'blitz me off the board'. It has turned out in most cases that i am quicker and sharper than people who try to do this against me. Maybe its a beginner thing? It is so funny! This has happened a few times against me in, even in OTB tournament play.

I know what you mean, but it's also a strategy. Not giving your opponent time to think during your own move leads to more loss of his time.

I play much better when Im behind on pieces, with nothing to lose more ambitious moves come. And so I also lose many games because if Im not far behind, trying to play it safe and then lose in a silly way.

Also I play worse when Im ahead. thinking Im already there, probably worst way to lose:s

I have always known I have a bad habit.  Given the choice of an interesting or a winning move, I will almost invariably take the interesting one with a "lets see what happens if I go here" attitude.  Kinda like a golfer hitting the ball deep in the woods because the fairway bores him.  Such would not be so bad, as I am not overly competitive, but I find there are certain personalities to whom I cannot stand losing.  I also feel an obligation to play well in team events, where I do indeed play better, but not as well as I might if I could "force" myself to play for the straight win.

A local master (one of 2 in the state) tries to avoid me in his rated games, as he resents my ability to turn them into a crap shoot.  He once started his own Montana rating system, and I beat him and went on to lose to a child, rated 1000 or so.  He gave up on the Montana system.

I must've been playing you the whole time, then. It's quite wierd, EVERY SINGLE TIME I blunder my queen away, I end up winning anyway.

All these things have to do with psychology. The newbs never work on their mental abilities, they just devour opeing books and maybe some tactics.

Well when a enemy queen is busy clearing pieces my opponents finds themselves in checkmate!
